GIVING OUR FAMILIES A VOICE - An opportunity to reflect on the Gift of Marriage and Family Life

Ahead of the forthcoming Ordinary Synod on the Family in October 2015, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, has asked all of us to reflect with 'true spiritual discernment' on the themes relating to marriage and family life that emerged from the Extraordinary meeting of Bishops held in Rome in October 2014.

The extraordinary Synod held last October was on the topic of ‘The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelisation’. The final document of that assembly is the preparatory document for the Synod scheduled for the 4th to the 25th of October 2015, the topic of which is ‘The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World’.

Prayer to the Holy Family

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
in you we contemplate
the splendour of true love,
to you we turn with trust.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too
may be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel
and small domestic Churches.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again
experience violence, rejection and division:
may all who have been hurt or scandalized
find ready comfort and healing.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
may the approaching Synod of Bishops
make us once more mindful
of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,
and its beauty in God’s plan.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
graciously hear our prayer.
